I’m very proud to present this drum to you! I met Danny Carey (Tool) in Cologne, Germany in the summer of 2024 and we talked about building a wooden snare drum. He rarely uses wooden snare drums so this was a challenge! I took my time sourcing the wood. I needed this drum to be very loud so it had to be a very hard wood species. Then I came across Brazilian Curupay at one my suppliers. I bought some and had it dry for some time. Then I built a few shells, just to see how every step in the process went with this type of wood. It’s so hard and dense, it actually sinks in water. It wasn’t easy but I finally managed to build a snare drum from it, learning as I went on. When I eventually sent the drum to Danny I was very curious what his opinion would be.

In his words: “It sounds great!!! I’m totally impressed with it. It has a great high end crack to it. Especially for a wood drum.”

I couldn’t be more happier with this result! So now the very first one is now available for you. Not only is it the first one, but also the very prototype shell I used to develop Danny’s drum. It also has a unique badge stating it’s the prototype. It also has 20 of the brand FLEX tube lugs which is the new lug for Zebra Drums. This drum has a shell thickness of 12 mm. The drum with the original specs will soon be available and will have a shell thickness of 13 mm. That is the only difference between the prototype and the original one. It’s obvious this a very special drum and a VERY loud one too. Not to mention how that beautiful grain looks. So if your looking for great high end crack with super sensitivity, built for the ultimate drummer, this the one to have! By the way, this drum weighs about 5 kg!
